All These Animals has created fantastic soundscapes that have their own atmospheres. Psychadelic and melodic, dreamy and airy, this album is cohesive but never singular.

His lyrics are poetry: timeless, cut-off, rough, thoughtfully moody. Wilson accompanies himself on acoustic guitar, and every now and then slips some electric guitar into the mix, briefly dissonant, sometimes competing with the other instruments, nonetheless acting to enlarge and strengthen the sound.

Dann schleicht sich immer wieder eine eigenköpfige E-Gitarre in die Lieder, kurz dissonant, eher konkurrierend, dann den Sound vergrößernd und verstärkend.

With a different emphasis to music previously featured Follow-Up is a four track EP comprised of shorter pieces with a less oppressive soundtrack, though of more sad countenance.

Mike Wilson aka All These Animals is a man bewitched. With a gravelly voice that you know means every word he sings, the EP I Drew a Ghost was recorded in various studios, rehearsal rooms and bedrooms, and the variation in quality does nothing to detract from the purity of the sound.

Longer term readers will know that I have a preference for shorter songs by instinct and the fact that there was choice of sharing one that lasts less than a minute and a half is a good indicator that I do think getting to know All These Animals is time well spent.

Un EP qui se retrouve d’ores et déjà dans ma Playlist de cet été. Tantôt brut, rock, tantôt calme, joué à l’acoustique, cet effort de All These Animals marque sans nul doute le début d’une belle carrière. Sorti début juillet dernier et composé de 6 titres, on plonge tête la première dans l’univers du groupe. Guitares acoustiques, électriques, solos, envolées, sans parler des textes, les trois membres nous montrent leur vision de la musique à travers ce disque.

Within the first minute of track one they have sat you down and told you that everything is not ok. We are privy to but a smattering of acoustic guitar chords before a soft voice confesses a busted knee and a tendency to drink. We sympathise. The voice tells us it has a lot to learn, and we empathise. And then, 48 seconds into this intimate disclosure and we are accelerated into a sudden outbreak of layers of guitar distortion.

Kiedy szłam na ich koncert, nie wiedziałam o nich nic. W dodatku trafiłam na ostatnie dwie piosenki. I chciałam, żeby nigdy się nie kończyły. Niestety, reguły dotyczące czasu występu były ściśle przestrzegane, więc obeszłam się smakiem. Sama nie wiem, co mnie w występie All These Animals tak urzekło. Słyszałam przecież takie gitarowe, indie granie już bezlik razy. W przypadku polsko-francusko-amerykańskiego tria był tam jeszcze ogromny ładunek pasji i szczerości. Niech już nagrają tę EP-kę i zaspokoją mój niedosyt.
